Players like Virat Kohli always choose the best series: Marcus Stoinis
The Border Gavaskar Trophy is set to commence this Thursday in Nagpur and Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis feels that players like Virat Kohli choose the best series to perform at their absolute best.
Virat Kohli is one of the greats of the modern-day game and his huge fan following speaks volumes of what kind of an athlete he is on and off the field. The delhi-born cricketer likes a challenge and Australia fits the bill whether it is home or away. He has not been in the greatest of forms in Test Cricket recently but might want to prove everyone wrong in the four-match Test series against Australia.
Marcus Stoinis, the Australian all-rounder on a show, spoke about how good Virat Kohli is as a cricketer. He said, ” Virat is one of the best ever. At the age he is at and the stage he is at in his career, he will want to use this series as his platform. The best players always choose the best series. We have seen at the T20 World Cup how good he was. It is an indication of how hungry he is. He is certainly the one who can push us back and we will have to get the better of him to be able to win the series. And I can tell you we will be ready for him.”
Australia sits on top of the World Test Championship table and looks all set to qualify for the World Test Championship Final with a win or a draw in any of the four matches in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. On the other hand, India will need a thumping win against the team from down under to book their place in the final. They will need to win the series by 4-0 or 3-1 or 3-0 in order to finalize their spot. Anything less would mean that they will have to depend on other results to stand a chance to qualify for the final.
Both India and Australia have been dealt with injuries ahead of the first Test of the series in Nagpur. India would be without key players like Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, and Shreyas Iyer. While, Australia would be without Cameron Green, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood, at least for the first Test. Both teams will be eager to draw first blood in when they set to face off against each other in Nagpur on February 9 before they head out to Delhi for the second Test.
