Piyush Chawla’s father passes away due to post-COVID complications
Indian cricketer Piyush Chawla suffered a personal blow when his father passed away after suffering from COVID and post-COVID complications. The pandemic has caused havoc on the Indian healthcare system as the second wave has been quite difficult to handle. In the past one week or so, there have been close to four lakh fresh cases emerging each day.
Chawla, 32, is a World Cup-winning player and was part of the 2007 T20 World Cup squad as well as the 2011 World Cup squad. He, later on, went on to play a part in Kolkata Knight Riders’ triumph in the Indian Premier League 2014. This season in the IPL, he was part of the Mumbai Indians squad but didn’t play a single match.
He returned home recently after the league got suspended indefinitely. On Monday, he took to Instagram revealing the sad news of his father’s demise. He informed his fans that Mr. Pramod Kumar Chawla scummed to the COVID and the post-COVID complications. He remarked that life won’t be the same without his father.

Chawla has been one of the better-known players in the Indian domestic circles. He first made an impression during the U19 World Cup in 2006 in Sri Lanka. His good show in the tournament and subsequent domestic seasons meant he was called up for the national side. He was there for a brief spell but due to Harbhajan Singh and later Ravichandran Ashwin, Chawla couldn’t cement his place. He continues to play for Gujarat in domestic cricket.
