Patanjali contemplating bidding for IPL title sponsorship: Reports
The brainchild of Yoga guru Baba Ramdev, Patanjali Ayurved is reportedly considering bidding for the IPL title sponsorship rights. Currently, the Board of Control for Cricket in India are without a title sponsor for the 2020 IPL edition.
A Patanjali official has confirmed the development with PTI.
“We are considering this. This is for Vocal For Local and making one Indian brand as global, this is the right platform. We are considering into that perspective,” said their spokesperson SK Tijarawala.
Tijarawala further stated that the company is yet to take a final decision regarding this matter. According to him, the BCCI will come out with the expression of interest on Monday (August 10), following which companies will have to submit their proposals.
Last week, Chinese mobile company Vivo and BCCI officially ended their association for this year’s IPL. This decision came on the back of severe backlash on social media after the IPL Governing Council decided to retain all its sponsors, including Vivo.
In 2017, Vivo had retained a five-year deal with the BCCI as title sponsors with a winning bid of INR 2199 crore. It meant that the BCCI could receive about INR 440 crores per season as part of the deal. The IPL sponsorship is an important part of IPL’s commercial revenue, half of which is shared with the eight franchises.
