Pakistan are the favourites to win the T20 World Cup this year: Faf du Plessis
Faf du Plessis feels that the Pakistan cricket team will lift the 2021 T20 World Cup trophy. Du Plessis also added that he hopes that the New Zealand side can win the tournament as the Kiwis have come so close on a number of occasions but have not managed to get their hands on the trophy.
Du Plessis also threw light on the performance of the South African side in the tournament. The 37-year-old said that winning 4 out of 5 matches in the Super 12 stages is an excellent achievement and the Proteas should feel proud of their accomplishment. Du Plessis also feels that the South African bowling attack is one of the best in the 2021 T20 World Cup.
“Pakistan is the favourite to win it but I hope New Zealand can go all the way. They [New Zealand] have come so close of bagging an ICC trophy in recent years so I do hope they can win it. Winning four out of five games is a big achievement the team should feel proud of their efforts. The bowling unit was exceptional and it won’t be wrong to say that it was one of the best attacks of the tournament,” said du Plessis in an interview with a local channel.
I had an idea that I am not in consideration for the T20 World Cup: Faf du Plessis
Faf du Plessis also said that he knew that he was not in consideration to be picked for the 2021 T20 World Cup even though he performed exceedingly well in the IPL. Du Plessis concluded by stating that he wants to do what he likes, which is going around the world and playing cricket.
“It is not my decision to make but I had an idea that I am not in consideration for the T20 World Cup. I expected it when I wasn’t selected for the Sri Lankan tour. My expectations were that I wasn’t going to go to the World Cup, even though my performances in the IPL were exceptional. For me, it is about doing what I like, which is playing cricket, and I have the opportunity to play around the world. It is a question that is very difficult for me to answer in terms of yes or no, but the fact that I wasn’t at the T20 World Cup suggests no,” concluded Du Plessis.
