Meanwhile, there are a few veteran players who will be playing their record eighth T20 World Cup this year and are also a part of this edition of the showpiece event, having played the inaugural edition in 2007. Without further ado, here’s a look at four of them.
4. Sean Williams
Sean Williams has been an integral member of Zimbabwe for one-and-half decades. It is astonishing to know that Williams who had played the 2007 T20 World Cup has so far only managed to make 58 T20I appearances having amassed 1274 runs averaging 24.50. The veteran batting all-rounder also has 38 scalps to his name in this format.
3. Shakib Al Hasan
Shakib Al Hasan will be leading Bangladesh in the ongoing T20 World Cup in Australia. The seasoned campaigner has been playing this tournament since its inaugural edition in 2007. He has 122 wickets and 2045 runs to his name in T20Is. The southpaw has a lot of work to do as Bangladesh’s performance in the shortest format have been forgettable in the last 12 months, including a group-stage exit from the Asia Cup 2022 recently.
2. Dinesh Karthik:
Dinesh Karthik was India’s Man of the Match in the first -ever T20I that the Men in Blue had played back in December 2006. He was also a key member of the Indian team’s triumphant squad during the inaugural edition that was played in South Africa in 2007. In the upcoming edition, Karthik would be expected to don the gloves as well as play a finisher’s role to perfection. The Tamil Nadu cricketer has scored 672 runs from the 56 matches played so far averaging 29.21 and a strike rate of 146.40.
- Rohit Sharma:
Rohit Sharma would be leading India for the very first time in an ICC event in the ongoing T20 World Cup. Nonetheless, it needs to be noted that Rohit was also an integral member of the Men in Blue’s triumphant campaign back in 2007. Apart from Rohit the ‘captain’, India would also be hoping to Rohit Sharma the ‘batter to make a tremendous impact in this competition. The ‘Hitman’ is currently the leading run-scorer in T20Is, having amassed 3737 runs at an average of 31.94 and a strike rate of 140.59, including a record four centuries.
