On this day in 2021: James Vince helps Sydney Sixers win the BBL
England batter James Vince has earned a big reputation for himself as an excellent batter at the top and this innings in the final of the 2020-21 Big Bash League took him to another level in terms of Brillance. On February 6 last year, the Sydney Sixers clinched their second BBL title with the help of star batter Vince and here is how the game panned out.
Vince misses out a well-deserved century
The Perth Scorchers won the toss and opted to field first at the Sydney ground and it turned out to be a bad decision in the end. Vince hit a flurry of boundaries despite the early loss of in-form batter Josh Phillipe and he kept the scoring rate going up.
Dan Hughes and skipper Moises Henriques could not stay longer and Vince had played a match-winning innings single-handedly. The right-hander was unfortunate to have missed out a century as he was dismissed on 95 off just 60 balls with ten fours and four sixes. Once Vince was gone, the likes of Jordan Silk, Dan Christian and Carlos Braithwaite got the score to 188 with some lusty blows towards the back end.
In reply, the Perth Scorchers were into an excellent start with Cameron Bancroft (30) and Liam Livingstone (45) going after the bowling. Bancroft departed within the powerplay while Colin Munro followed him soon for just two runs. Livingstone and Inglis continued the assault until the 11th over while Jackson Bird managed to get the big wicket of the English all-rounder.
Mitchell Marsh and skipper Ashton Turner were all dismissed early and it left the Perth side with too much to get in the last few overs. Aaron Hardie kept the side in the hunt with two big sixes and a four but he was soon dismissed for 26 as Ben Dwarshuis picked up three wickets. A clinical performance from the bowling attack of the Sydney Sixers ensured a 27-run victory and Vince was awarded the player of the match rightly as well.
