On This Day in 2015: Australia win the first-ever Day-Night Test
The concept of the Day-Night Test came to light with Australia and New Zealand locking horns with each other in 2015 at Adelaide, Oval. After the same, many day-night Tests came for the world to witness in the game of cricket. India is currently playing Australia on their soil and will lock horns with Kangaroos for the first day-night Test in Adelaide on December 17.
In the first-ever day-night Test that took place in Australia, visitors had to see the face of loss by three wickets. Batting first, Kiwis could only post 202 runs on the board owing to their flop batting show. Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood showed up in deadly form and devastated guests’ batting order ruthlessly. Tom Latham’s innings of 50 runs turned out to be the very base of their batting set up.

Starc and Hazlewood got three wickets each under their belt, while Peter Siddle and Nathan Lyon had two each to their credit. When Australia came to bat, they also couldn’t put anything great on the board and were bundled out on 224 runs. Peter Nevill (66 off 110) and Steve Smith’s (53 off 114) half-centuries proved significant in pushing the score of hosts.
Hazlewood was named as the player of the match
Doug Bracewell scalped three wickets for his side while Trent Boult and Mark Craig got two on their name. The second innings of the Black Caps also didn’t shine too well as they could touch only 208 runs mark. Mitchell Santner’s innings of 45 runs was the highest individual score from their end. The reason behind Kiwis failure in the 2nd innings was the magical spell of Josh Hazlewood yet again. He sent back the top and middle order of guests in the pavilion in no time as he picked a six-wickets haul.
The Australian side was able to chase the score with their three wickets remaining as Shaun Marsh played a decent knock of 49 runs. Kiwi star pacer Trent Boult troubled the batsmen in front on a constant basis as he clinched a fifer in the match. Josh Hazlewood was named as the player of the match as he got a total of nine wickets in the game. Though Australia grabbed the match, it came with the closest of margin as both the teams put on a brilliant display of cricket.
