Ollie Robinson will be a real asset Down Under during Ashes: Nasser Hussain

The Ashes is still four months away, but former England captain Nasser Hussain believes pacer Ollie Robinson will be the key player during the high-octane Ashes series, which is set to begin from December 8. The 27-year-old bowled superbly in the Leeds Test as he finished with seven wickets in the match, five of those coming in the second innings, wherein his relentless bowling broke the back of the Indian batting lineup as they lost eight wickets for just 63 runs

Robinson also had taken five wickets in the Trent Bridge Test match and bounced back in style after England Cricket Board (ECB)’s suspension on his past historic Tweets. Hussain feels Robinson just looks good and ready for Test match cricket.

“It was an outstanding bowling performance from England. Twice in the game as well; 78 all out in the first innings and 63 for 8 today. Robinson, in particular, since he has come in this side, he has just looked ready for Test match cricket,” said Nasser Hussain.

The cricketer-turned commentator further opined how Robinson would be handy in the Ashes series against Australia. His superb control, coupled with pinpoint accuracy makes him a dangerous bowler on helpful conditions, which offer seam and swing movement.

“I think Shane [Warne] in the commentary box compared him to Josh Hazlewood of Australia, that sort of bowler that is at you all the time – and that’s a good compliment, because he’s a serious bowler, especially where England are going next. He will be a real asset Down Under,” added Nasser Hussain.

Speaking about the Leeds Test, England bossed the game from day one itself by bundling India out for just 78 runs. If the bowlers were brilliant, the batting too stepped up as their top four batters-Haseeb Hameed, Rory Burns, Dawid Malan, and Joe Root scored half-centuries, to make a platform of a 400 plus score. Skipper Root scored classy 121 and continued his rich vein of form in the 2021 calendar year.

With this thumping win, the series is levelled 1-1 with two games yet to be played. The fourth Test will be played at The Oval from September 02.
