Ollie Pope ruled out until start of England-India Tests with thigh injury
England’s middle-order batter Ollie Pope survived an injury while playing in the Vitality Blast for Surrey against Kent. He endured an injury in the left thigh muscles on July 02 and in the latest turn of events, he has been ruled out of the action until England’s high profile Test series. England’s Test series against India is all set to commence on August 04.
It has to be noted that India’s Test series against England stands an all-important affair and Pope wouldn’t want to miss on the same. However, the fitness and rehabilitation team of England and Surrey is committed to working for the batter’s betterment and they aim that he would be ready for the first Test against Virat Kohli and his men.
The ECB and Surrey fitness teams will work together to deliver Ollie Pope’s rehabilitation: ECB
“Pope has been ruled out until England’s LV= Insurance Test Series against India after suffering a left thigh muscle injury. The ECB and Surrey fitness teams will work together to deliver Pope’s rehabilitation with a focus for him to be available to return for the first Test against India,” a statement by ECB read.
It has to be taken into consideration that Pope has not been able to breach the 35-run mark in his last 15 Test innings but it was reported that he was hoping to secure his squad in the Test team. He was hopeful for his squad as he has been seen as one of the most talented youngsters in England’s first-class setup.
It can be said that his absence might open a gate for another talented batter Dawid Malan who has been shining well enough for England in the limited-overs format. Another batsman who could be benefitted can be Dan Lawrence but it still remains to be seen if Pope can really make it to the first Test against India. The 23-year-old’s injury might also close his opportunities of plying trade in The Hundred- England’s new 100-ball format game which is all set to kick off this year.
