Not winning a World Cup doesn’t make Virat Kohli a bad captain: Clive Lloyd

Virat Kohli’s journey as India’s T20I leader ended on a low when the men in blue couldn’t qualify for the semi-finals stage of the T20 World Cup 2021. Though Kohli’s tenure is still devoid of an ICC Trophy, he bows out of the captaincy stint with some exceptional numbers. In the same light, legendary West Indies skipper sir Clive Lloyd has come up to analyze Kohli’s T20I stint as a leader.

Lloyd stated that though Kohli couldn’t get an ICC trophy for his side, he gave exceptional services to Indian cricket and the side bloomed under his leadership. People have been talking a lot about his batting nowadays and he is quite sure that fans will see the best of Kohli in times to come, the former West Indian skipper stated.

“The point is he has done extremely well for India over the years. He probably didn’t win a World Cup but that doesn’t make him a bad captain. He has been a tremendous servant for the Indian team and will continue to do so for years to come. People have been talking about his batting and I am sure will witness the best of Kohli with the bat,” said Sir Clive Lloyd while speaking to News nine.

The successive World Cup-winning skipper of West Indies stated that India couldn’t give their best in the T20 WC 2021 but they still remain to be one of the best teams in the world in the same setup. They play some tough brand of cricket and Lloyd displayed surety on India bouncing back in style in the next edition of World T20 which will get staged in Australia.

“Well, they didn’t play at their best in the first two matches against Pakistan and New Zealand. Nonetheless, they still remain one of the best teams in the T20 circuit. They have done exceedingly well in ODIs, T20Is, and Test cricket. They play tough and I am sure they will make a great comeback in the next cycle,” he added.
