‘Not the end of the world’ if CSK don’t qualify for playoffs: MS Dhoni
Despite a ‘perfect’ win against Delhi Capitals on Sunday (May 8), Chennai Super Kings aren’t likely to find a place in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 playoffs. However, CSK skipper MS Dhoni is not losing his sleep over the same. The veteran wicketkeeper-batter reckons that it won’t be the ‘end of the world’ even if they don’t find a place in the final four.
It must be noted that CSK, except for the 2020 season, have qualified for the playoffs in every single season they participated. However, the four-time champions endured a torrid time in the initial half of the ongoing competition, having lost five of their first six games. Although they have registered some emphatic wins in recent assignments, it isn’t likely to put their campaign back on track.
Meanwhile, the Yellow Army kept their playoff hopes alive with a stellar 91-run triumph over DC. Following the conclusion of the game, Dhoni admitted that such a win in the early stages of the tournament might have put CSK in a better position. At the same time, he also stated that not qualifying for the playoffs won’t be the ‘end of the world.’
It was a perfect game for CSK: MS Dhoni
“It would have been better if we would have had a win like this somewhere early. It was a perfect game. If we make the playoffs, great. But even if we don’t it’s not the end of the world,” Dhoni said after the game. Notably, CSK, besides winning their remaining games, need other match results to go in their favour. However, Dhoni is not too fussed about these calculations.
“I am not a big fan of maths. Even in school, I wasn’t good at it. Thinking of the net run rate doesn’t help. You just want to enjoy the IPL. When two other teams are playing, you don’t want to be under pressure and thinking. You just have to think about what to do in the next game,” he said.
