No one can fill the void in my life created by my father and coach: Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant of Delhi Capitals

Indian team’s current best wicketkeeper and Delhi Capitals’ captain Rishabh Pant has had a lot on his plate recently. From being the anchor of Team India, leading his side in the Indian Premier League, hitting tons for India, breaching the fortresses alongside his national team, and making his way into the IPL playoffs, he does it all.

Pant is seen enjoying every minute that he spends in the camp, be it the case of his country, or the Delhi Capitals. He has learned a lot since his entry into international cricket and shows all the abilities of a perfect wicketkeeper-batter. The 24-year-old credits his coach and his father for his success.

In a recent interview with The Times of India, he spoke about his relationship with his coach Tarak Sinha. Pant was in England on national duty, playing the World Cup for India, in the year 2019, when his coach fell critically ill and passed away.

Speaking of how he could cope up at that stage, he said: “I wanted to come back and meet him (chokes). I really miss my father. When my father left me, I was playing cricket. Tarak sir was like my second father. When he left us, I was again busy playing. These people have taken me where I stand today. I tried my best to provide all the support he (Tarak sir) needed from there. He told me, ‘Doesn’t matter what happens in life, you have to keep playing cricket. ‘ You need to take care of your family and that’s what I have tried.”

Pant considered Sinha as his go-to man. “No one can fill the void created by my father and Tarak sir. But you have to have people around you. I share my problems with my mother sometimes. Devendra Sharma (Sinha’s student and colleague at Sonnet Club) is there. I have a really small circle. Everyone has his own place. Friends and family have their own separate places in my life,” added Rishabh when asked about who he considers as his confidante, after Sinha.

Rishabh Pant will be seen captaining Delhi Capitals in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League.
