No home advantage to any team balances out IPL 2021: AB de Villiers
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) player AB de Villiers has opined that the lack of home advantage for every side will balance out the competition in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Because of the ongoing pandemic due to COVID-19, this season of the IPL has been scheduled in only six venues across India.
Unlike every other season, the 2021 edition will not have any home-away situation and all the matches will be played at neutral venues. For an instance, RCB will play all their matches outside Bangalore. The playoffs have been scheduled in Ahmedabad, which ensures that no team has any sort of home advantage at any stage of the tournament. In a recent interaction, De Villiers spoke about this factor and how it balances the odds for the teams.
“I think it balances out the tournament. It is the same for every team, no one has home games and it really puts emphasis on adapting to different conditions. Every game you play, conditions will be different. The wickets will get older, you will play a different team on the same ground, it is interesting but it is the same for everyone,” AB de Villiers said during a video posted on the RCB’s official Twitter handle.

I do not know how we will react if we win the trophy, says AB de Villiers
In some of the seasons, we have seen teams winning a lot of their matches at their home ground, which contributes to their success. The South African revealed that the teams which have made their home grounds as fortress will be at a disadvantage. De Villiers has been with the franchise since 2011 but has longed for an IPL title victory. He has played two finals but not won any of those.
He said that he doesn’t know how he will react if he wins the tournament. “You want to win the trophy, I would love to win the IPL, I do not know how we will react if we win the trophy one day,” the RCB player said.
Bangalore will play their next match against Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday, April 18. The franchise has started their season nicely winning both their matches so far.
