Nitish Rana anticipates ‘homecoming’ as Gautam Gambhir meets Shah Rukh Khan
The relationship between former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir and Kolkata Knight Riders is quite a fairytale. Gambhir led Knight Riders to two IPL titles and has a good relationship with the franchise and its owners.
However, the former batter is not a part of Knight Riders anymore, as he has hung his playing boots and is now a part of the coaching staff of Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2023. Recently, Gambhir took to social media and shared a picture of himself with legendary actor and KKR co-owner Shah Rukh Khan.
“He’s not just the king of Bollywood but the king of hearts. Every time we meet, I go back with endless love and respect . So much to learn from u . Simply the best SRK,” Gambhir captioned the post.
Seeing the post, Kolkata Knight Riders batter Nitish Rana, who led the side in the IPL 2023 in the absence of regular skipper Shreyas Iyer, replied, anticipating a homecoming for Gambhir in Kolkata.
“True kings in their own fields! Could this be a sign of a homecoming? Just wondering,” Rana posted.
Over the past few months, fans have expressed their desire of having Gambhir as KKR coach.. The side had a subpar IPL 2023 season, which called for many supporters to come forth and demand changes.
The two-time champions failed to capitalise on several stages of the tournament and finished in seventh place in the standings, failing to qualify for the knockout stages. Players like Rinku Singh, skipper Rana and spinner Varun Chakravarthy showed glimpses of class but their efforts were not enough to make the franchise qualify for the playoffs. Notably, Kolkata managed to win only six of the 14 games they played in IPL 2023.
