Nicholas Pooran: The T20 specialist who is going places with his brilliant hitting
Nicholas Pooran has been bringing his brand of cricket to the T20 leagues playing fearlessly. His entry to the crease lifts up the run rate alongside the spirits of the team. The strategy he brings in his batting while coming to the crease is not allowing any sort of nonsense bowling and being pretty critical against the part-timers and medium-pace. On top of it, his ability to nail down the spinners in the middle overs forms one of the greatest positives for any team.
Pooran smashed a total of 25 sixes during the previous edition of the IPL with most of them being 90+ meter hits and a good number of them travelling as far as 100 meters. It does prove how cleanly Pooran takes on the opposition’s bowling and seldom depends on the slogs that go over the fence by taking the edges of the bat. His short stint for the Melbourne Stars in the BBL 2020-21 is also an example of Pooran’s quality.

The keeper-batsman comfortably broke down the record for fastest fifty of the franchise in what was his only 2nd outing in the league. A lot of commentators during his record fifty reminded of the West Indian great, Brian Lara who himself analyzed the art of Pooran’s hitting. The former left-hand batsman was all praises for the current one applauding his technique, especially while hitting the sixes.
Nicholas Pooran’s stroke-play against pacers is something that seemed to have impressed Lara as the 25-year-old was sending the fast bowlers down for a huge distance just by going with a full face of the bat. Given the way he is going along across the globe, Pooran could well be a T20 specialist in the coming years with the demand for him in every part of the world. His success has not been limited to T20s as he managed to replicate it in the ODIs where he averages 49.05 with a strike rate of 106.51.
