Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shivam Dube likely to secure BCCI contracts
Shivam Dube and Yashasvi Jaiswal made their way to the Indian team after having a stellar IPL 2023. Jaiswal has made debuts in all three formats of the game while Dube is in contention for the 2024 T20 World Cup in June after his breathtaking knocks against Afghanistan recently.
As per reports, Jaiswal and Dube are likely to bag the BCCI contract in the coming weeks for having a stunning 2023 and a promising start to 2024. Notably, the duo was a part of the Indian team that secured the Gold Medal in the Asian Games 2023 in China.
Jaiswal has been a regular part of the national team but Dube was dropped after a few chances. He, however, made the most of the opportunity in the series against Afghanistan, scoring unbeaten 60 and 63 in the first two T20Is of the three-match series.
Meanwhile, the BCCI officials expect Dube to bowl more to bag a spot in the T20 World Cup. The officials, are aware of Hardik Pandya’s injury status therefore skipper Rohit Sharma is helping Dube with more opportunities to prepare better for the mega tournament.
“The selectors and the team management want him to bowl more and more, as that adds immense value to Dube as a player. This is why he is bowling a fair bit during this series. If he can chip in with a few overs with the ball, he can cement his place in the side for the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA. This is crucial because he is the ideal backup to the injury-prone Hardik Pandya,” a reliable source in the BCCI told Times of India.
Meanwhile, Rinku Singh is also likely to get a central contract. He has been a force to reckon with in the shortest format of the game and is also likely to make it to the T20 World Cup if he keeps up with the form.
