WPL Review: Delhi asserts dominance over Gujarat to top the table

Delhi Capitals beat Gujarat Giants by six wickets on Tuesday, February 25, to climb to the top of the points table in the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025.

The Capitals won the toss and opted to bowl first on a green track. Marizanne Kapp bowled a brilliant spell with the new ball and she was supported nicely by Shikha Pandey as Gujarat lost four wickets inside the powerplay. Annabel Sutherland bowled well in the latter stages of the first innings as Gujarat was struggling at 60/6 in the 11th over. However, Bharti Fulmali played a gritty knock of 40* off 29 balls to take the Giants to a fighting score of 127/9. Kapp, Shikha, and Sutherland bagged two wickets apiece.

In reply, Delhi Capitals lost their captain Meg Lanning in the fourth over. Shafali Verma and Jess Jonassen joined forces and stitched a match-winning partnership of 74 off 37 balls to blow away the Giants. After Shafali was dismissed for a 27-ball 44, Jonassen took her team home with 29 balls to spare.
