WPL Final Preview: DC vs MI – Mumbai outshines Delhi to lift second trophy

Mumbai Indians Women emerged victorious over Delhi Capitals Women by eight runs in the final of the Women’s Premier League 2025 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday, February 15. This was Mumbai’s second title triumph.
On winning the toss, Delhi opted to bowl first. They got off to a brilliant start in the powerplay, claiming the wickets of the opening batters in quick fashion. By the end of the seventh over of the game, Marizanne Kapp ended up registering figures of 2/11 in her four-over quota. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur combined with Nat Sciver-Brunt to lead Mumbai’s revival.
Harmanpreet went on to get her third fifty of the season. Just as she looked set to finish the innings with a bang, she departed for a blistering 66 off 44 deliveries. The Mumbai outfit ended the innings on a competitive 149. At one point, not a lot of people were expecting them to get even 120.
Delhi lost their opening batters early, too. However, they had ended up scoring 17 runs in addition to Mumbai’s score at the end of the powerplay. From that point onwards, wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals. With wicketkeeper-batter Sarah Bryce going back to the shed on the final delivery of the 13th over, Delhi’s score read 83/6.
After her sensational performance with the ball, Kapp tried her best during the run-chase. Her tempo-setting knock made Delhi believe that they could clinch their first WPL title. However, her valiant 26-ball 40-run ended in the 18th over, and with that, so did Delhi’s hopes. They were outplayed in the final for the third time in a row.

Top Performers of the match
Harmanpreet Kaur (66 off 44)
The Mumbai skipper saved the best for her last. With her team in deep trouble at the start of the innings, she paced her innings superbly well to get her highest score in the game. Her enterprising knock contained nine fours and two sixes.
Nat Sciver-Brunt (3/30 in four overs)
Sciver-Brunt had taken only two wickets in her past five WPL encounters. However, she came out on top right when her side needed her the most. She struck in her first over to get rid of the opposition skipper. Her dismissal of the dangerous-looking Kapp ended up being the match-altering moment.
