Who is Shashank Singh? All you need to know about the star batter
Indian Premier League seems to be coming up with newer talents during this season. On Thursday it was Shashank Singh who gave the worldwide audience a glimpse of his prodigious talent.
The 32-year-old was the one of few batters from Punjab Kings who put up a fight with the bat against Gujarat Titans. IPL 2024 has been a breakout season for the man from Chhattisgarh. It wasn’t an easy journey for Shashank Singh as confusion regarding his name during IPL 2024 nearly ended his dream.
Domestic cricket fans though know his talents, especially his penchant in the shortest formats of the game. Despite all the setbacks, the 32-year-old has chosen the biggest stage to showcase the exact talent only a few knew about.
Shashank Singh: The Almost Man of IPL 2024
There was chaos at the Punjab Kings table during the IPL Auction 2024 last December. Preity Zinta looked towards the auctioneer almost as if to say that she had picked the wrong player. Shashank Singh’s hopes and aspirations to be part of the IPL were almost hanging by the thread.
There were murmurs that the bid could likely be cancelled and it would have been a cruel blow. Yet another player with the same name from Bengal was thought to be the choice for PBKS during the auctions. In the end, the choice was made and Shashank Singh was a Punjab Kings player for a sum of INR 20 Lakhs.
Shashank Singh began his IPL Career with PBKS with a duck before scoring a brisk 21 against RCB. The 32-year-old played a blinder as PBKS batted first and put up a respectable total on the board. Even in that small cameo vs RCB, there was ample talent on show.
His biggest moment came during the game against Gujarat Titans where PBKS were chasing 200 to win. With all the big batters back in the dugout and the run rate climbing up, it was time for Shashank Singh to show his worth. Shashank Singh did just that as he helped his side win the game in the most amazing circumstances. Once the winning runs were the name Shashank Singh is suddenly on the lips of every cricket fan.
