Who is Preetam Patil?
Preetam Patil is a right-handed batter who represents the Ratnagiri Jets in the Maharashtra Premier League (MPL). He has been a regular feature in the Jets’ top-order during both their MPL-winning campaigns, scoring over 300 runs for them.
Patil burst onto the Maharashtra cricket scene with an astonishing triple-century in a 50-over game. Representing PYCHindu Gymkhana in the Maharashtra Cricket Association’s senior initiation league, he scored 306 runs off just 134 balls.
His explosive innings featured 28 fours and 26 sixes, propelling his team to 595 runs. Nanded, their opponents, could only muster 86 runs in response. In recognition of his remarkable achievement, his teammate Kedar Jadhav gifted him a bat worth INR 25,000.
Beyond his batting prowess, Patil is known for his vibrant personality off the field. During the MPL 2024 campaign, he entertained fans by masquerading as Professor Pintya and playing pranks on his teammates, which became a hit on the team’s social media.
Patil has been the chief accelerator in Ratnagiri Jets’ batting order
Patil has built a reputation for effortlessly clearing the boundary. In the inaugural MPL season, he scored 140 runs at a strike rate of 175 across six matches, second only to Dhiraj Phatangare’s 153 runs among teammates. His most memorable innings was a blistering 69 off 32 balls against the PBG Kolhapur Tuskers.
This season, Patil’s performance was mixed. Despite a stellar strike rate of 158.77 over 10 innings, his average of 18.10 didn’t reflect his true potential. He scored 181 runs, contributing to the Jets’ consecutive MPL titles.
Patil began the season strong, with scores of 31 off 15 balls against the PBG Kolhapur Tuskers and 33 off 16 balls against the Raigad Royals. However, injuries and form issues affected his performance in the latter half. His most impactful display came in a 5-over match against the Eagle Nashik Titans, where he smashed 21 runs off just six deliveries.
At 33 years of age, Patil remains a vital asset to the Ratnagiri Jets, consistently providing explosive starts. As the MPL continues to grow, he will be eager to maintain his high standards and contribute to his team’s success in the coming years.
