Indian Cricket fans have found a new fast-bowling sensation during the ongoing IPL 2024 season. Right-arm pacer Mayank Yadav has bowled the fastest ball of the season for Lucknow Super Giants against Punjab Kings. The 21-year-old bowled at 155.8 KPH in the first ball of his second over to Shikhar Dhawan.
Mayank Yadav was handed his IPL debut cap on Saturday by Krunal Pandya. Even before he could begin his bowling the commentators seemed genuinely interested to see the youngster in action.
Once he began bowling, the great Matthew Hayden was heard singing the praises of the young Mayank Yadav. The pacer from New Delhi had the seasoned Punjab Kings batters on their toes with his rapid pace and bounce.
Mayank Yadav hails from New Delhi is born on the 17th June of 2002 and is currently 21 years old. The youngster made his Ranji Trophy debut against Baroda in 2022 and picked just one wicket.
His record in the white ball format is much better with 34 wickets from 17 List A games with a best of 4/47. In the T20 format, he has picked 12 wickets from 10 matches with an economy rate of 6.44 runs per over. There were lots of murmurs about his talents in the domestic cricketing circles. Mayank Yadav on Saturday made his IPL debut and it was a memorable first act in front of a packed audience.
Mayank Yadav sets massive record on debut
The Indian Premier League has produced quite a few sensations in the last few years. Umran Malik burst onto the scene and impressed everyone with his pace. During the IPL 2022 season, he bowled the fastest ball by an Indian at 157 KPH.
Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow were determined to put the LSG bowlers to the sword. Then, Pooran gave the ball to the youngster in the 10th over of the innings and the youngster conceded 10 runs from it. The biggest talking point of the over was that Mayank Yadav touched 150 KPH in the third ball of the over.
The second over from the right arm pacer saw history being made as he hit 155.8 KPH. This was the fastest ball of the IPL 2024 season going past the 153 KPH bowled by Nandre Burger. This is also the fifth-fastest ball in the history of the league and this is no mean feat by the youngster.
Mayank Yadav then got the wicket of Bairstow for 42 to grab his maiden IPL scalp. The very next ball to Prabhsimran Singh was snorter at 153 KPH. The first ball of the 3rd over saw Yadav bowl at 152 KPH before getting Prabhsimran Singh to account for his 2nd wicket.
The young lad gave it his all in his final over when he dismissed Jitesh Sharma for 6. The last over from Yadav saw him deliver the ball at 153.4, 153.9, 148.6 151.9, and 148 KPH to set the pulses racing. Should he continue this form, Mayank Yadav will soon become a talking point around the world.
