Watch: Shreyas Iyer imitates bowling action of Sunil Narine
Domestic cricket season has kicked off with the coveted Buchi Babu 2024 tournament. Some star Indian players are featuring in the coveted cricket event in a bid to cut into the Test side sooner or later as the selectors will be monitoring the performances. However, things are a tad different for the ravishing Mumbai-based batter, Shreyas Iyer.
Notably, because of the lack of domestic cricket played by the star cricketers, the apex cricket governing body of India aka BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has taken some stringent actions in recent times. As a result, Iyer had to suffer the Indian board’s wrath as his central contract was terminated. However after much back and forth regarding this situation, Iyer made it a point to play in Tamil Nadu’s premier tournament in a bid to impress the board to not only get back to playing Tests for India but also reclaim his central contract.
Amidst this, during an intense game between TNCA XI (Tamil Nadu Cricket Association) and Mumbai on Tuesday, August 27, the batter decided to roll his arms as skipper Sarfaraz Khan made an interesting bowling change call. Fascinatingly enough, Shreyas Iyer who usually bowls leg spin, went ahead to showcase his off-spin bowling skills but with a twist. He went on to imitate his Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) teammate and West Indies spinner, Sunil Narine, which caught everyone off guard.
Check out the viral moment of Iyer copying Narine here:
During the 90th over of the match, the Mumbaikar was seen hiding and gripping the ball behind his back before starting the follow-up runup and delivered the ball in a similar action to that of Narine. However, Shreyas Iyer remained wicketless and conceded seven runs in his over.
Notably, Iyer is the Captain of the KKR side in the coveted Indian Premier League (IPL). Speaking of the game, currently, TNCA XI concluded Day 1 with 294/5 on the board after 90 overs.
