U-19 World Cup 2024: Australia trump India to lift fourth title
Australia clinched their fourth Under 19 World Cup title beating India in the final of the U-19 World Cup 2024 by 79 runs on Sunday, February 11 at Willowmoore Park, Benoni. After opting to bat first, Australia posted a good score of 253/7 in their allotted 50 overs. Harjas Singh emerged as the top scorer for the Aussies with his knock of 55 (64) while captain Hugh Weibgen (48 off 66), Oliver Peake (46* off 43), and Harry Dixon (42 off 56) also made valuable contributions.
Right-arm seamer Raj Limbani was the pick of the bowlers for India with figures of 3/38 in ten overs while Naman Tiwari also picked up 2/63 in nine overs. In reply, India got off to a shaky start in the second innings, as they were left reeling at 68/4 with Musheer Khan (22 off 33), Uday Saharan (8 off 18), and Sachin Dhas (9 off 8) getting out cheaply.
Adarsh Singh (47 off 77) and Murugan Abhishek (42 off 46) tried their best to take their team over the line, but their innings weren’t enough. Mahli Beardman (3/15) and Raf MacMillan (3/43) were the pick of the bowlers for Australia. As a result, India were all out for 174 in 43.5 overs and failed to clinch their sixth title.
