Travis Head calls Rohit Sharma ‘the unluckiest man’ after Australia’s triumph
Australia all-rounder Travis Head was phenomenal on the night of the ODI World Cup 2023 final. Along with Marnus Labuschagne, he stitched a partnership of 192 runs, which pushed India out of the race as Australia went on to win their sixth world title in history. India threw whatever they got but couldn’t get the job done as Australia comfortably won the match by six wickets.
Team India skipper Rohit Sharma was spotted in tears after the match. He was about to break down but controlled himself and gave credit to the Australian team for playing better cricket on the night of the finals. Meanwhile, after the end of the match, Head consoled Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, calling him one of the unluckiest men.
Notably, the 36-year-old wasn’t part of the squad which won the trophy in 2011. He was exceptional in the 2015 and the 2019 editions but India couldn’t lift the trophy despite playing some phenomenal cricket throughout the course of the season. 2023 finally looked to be the year for Rohit but it once again ended with a heartbreak. Head feels that and eventually consoles him after collecting his Player of the Match trophy.
“He’s (Rohit Sharma) probably the unluckiest man in the world,” Head said after the match.
Rohit Sharma led India’s batting with his valiant explosive knock in ODI World Cup Final
Batting first, the Nagpur-born cricketer gave a flying start to India and looked to be in absolute control. However, he got out after scoring quick 47 runs. Soon after his dismissal, things started to go south for the Men in Blue. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul tried to manage the situation but the latter played too many dot balls in the process which didn’t put the pressure back on Australia.
The plan was to attack towards the fag end but wickets kept on falling at regular intervals and the right moment never came. India ended their first innings with 240 runs on board, but that was never enough to restrict Australia. Even so, the bowlers gave whatever they got, it was not meant to be in the end.
