There’s no player like Rohit Sharma in international cricket: Wasim Akram
Pakistan’s cricketing legend, Wasim Akram, showered accolades upon India’s skipper, Rohit Sharma, lauding his effortless mastery of batting. In a resounding victory against the Netherlands in the last league match of ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, Rohit’s sublime half-century set the tone. The dynamic duo of Rohit and Shubman Gill orchestrated a century partnership, showcasing their adeptness.
Remarkably, Sharma also etched his name in the ODI World Cup history, eclipsing Eoin Morgan’s 2019 record by smashing the most sixes as a captain, a staggering 23 in total. Akram’s admiration for him knew no bounds, hailing him as unparalleled in international cricket for his seemingly effortless batting prowess. His elegant 61 off 54 deliveries, adorned with eight boundaries and two towering sixes, further underscored his uniqueness as Akram opined,
“There’s no player like Rohit Sharma in international cricket. We talk about Virat Kohli, Joe Root, Kane Williamson, and Babar Azam but this guy is different. He makes batting look so easy no matter what the opposition or bowling attack,” said Akram while speaking to A Sports.
Rohit is the kind of batter who will hit all five opposition bowlers: Shoaib Malik
In harmony with Wasim’s acclaim, former Pakistan batter Shoaib Malik concurred, highlighting Indian opener’s penchant for taking on every adversary bowler. In the ongoing World Cup 2023, the Mumbaiker has amassed an impressive 503 runs in nine matches, boasting an average of 55.88 at a brisk strike rate of 121.49. Notably, during his half-century, Sharma shattered AB de Villiers’ record of 58 sixes in a calendar year, underlining his prolific six-hitting prowess.
“He’s a kind of batter who will hit all five opposition bowlers. The batters that Wasim Akram named, they target 3-4 bowlers but Rohit goes after all five,” said Malik.
