Steve Smith retires from ODI cricket after Champions Trophy exit

Australian cricketer Steve Smith has announced his retirement from One-Day International (ODI) cricket following Australia’s semi-final loss to India in the ICC Champions Trophy. At 35, Smith concluded his ODI career after playing 170 matches and scoring 5,800 runs at an average of 43.28, including 12 centuries and 35 half-centuries.

Smith, a two-time ODI World Cup winner, expressed his enjoyment and pride in his career highlights, particularly the World Cup victories. He stated, “It has been a great ride and I have loved every minute of it.” Smith also mentioned that stepping aside now provides an opportunity for others to prepare for the 2027 World Cup.
