South Africa announces 15-member squad for Champions Trophy 2025

South Africa has unveiled its 15-member squad for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled to take place in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates from February 19 to March 9. The team will be led by captain Temba Bavuma, maintaining a strong core from their 2023 World Cup campaign, with 10 players returning to the lineup.

Notably, fast bowlers Anrich Nortje and Lungi Ngidi make their return after recovering from injuries. Nortje, who missed the 2023 World Cup due to a left toe injury, and Ngidi, absent from the recent home series against Pakistan because of a groin injury, are expected to bolster South Africa’s pace attack.

The squad also introduces fresh talent, with batters Tony de Zorzi, Ryan Rickelton, and Tristan Stubbs, along with all-rounder Wiaan Mulder, set to make their debuts in a 50-over ICC event. This blend of experience and new energy reflects the team’s strategy to build on recent performances and aim for advancement in the tournament.

Head coach Rob Walter expressed confidence in the selected players, stating, “This squad boasts a wealth of experience, with many players having consistently performed in high-pressure situations. That kind of experience is invaluable in a tournament like this.” He emphasized the team’s readiness to pursue the coveted silverware, building on their recent successes in global tournaments.
