Shaheen Afridi visits football club Manchester United
Pakistan’s pace-bowling spearhead, Shaheen Shah Afridi, is currently in the United Kingdom, relishing a respite from cricket. Having endured a demanding and exhausting few months, where he relentlessly bowled countless deliveries, Afridi is now taking some much-needed time for himself. His extended stay in the UK reflects his intent to rejuvenate after the grueling rigours of his earlier endeavours.
Recently, he visited Old Trafford, the largest club stadium in the UK and the storied home of Manchester United-a globally renowned football club, celebrated for its illustrious history and a future replete with potential.
What initially appeared to be a spontaneous visit was soon revealed to be a meticulously orchestrated event by the club for Afridi. The Pakistan bowler was seen posing in the dugout of “The Theatre of Dreams” with a personalized jersey, bearing his name “Afridi” and the iconic No. 10 – a number historically worn by United legends such as David Beckham, Ruud van Nistelrooy, and Wayne Rooney. The custom-tailored jersey, displayed prominently on a hanger, further underscored the significance of this carefully planned occasion
Additionally, the charismatic cricketer was captured in a pose with his arms crossed on the lush outfield of the venue. Afridi’s expression radiated exuberance and delight, which was palpably evident in the photograph.
Looking ahead to his nation’s future cricketing endeavours, they are set to host Bangladesh for a two-match Test series beginning on August 21. Afridi will spearhead the 17-member squad, which includes five specialist fast bowlers, with Mir Hamza serving as the only other left-arm pacer alongside Afridi.
Having last participated in an international Test during the latter days of December last year, it will be fascinating to observe how he re-establishes and sustains his rhythm with the red ball upon his return.
