Sachin Tendulkar named Global Ambassador for ODI World Cup 2023
Legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar has been named as the global ambassador for the upcoming ODI World Cup. The iconic batter has represented India for 24 years and has multiple records to his name in international cricket. He is known to be one of the greatest cricketers of all time and won the prestigious world title in 2011. India defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets on the night of 2nd April 2011.
After receiving the honour, the Mumbai-born cricketer opened up on his journey. He reminded that the World Cup holds a very special place in his heart. Notably, he was the ball boy in the 1987 edition and eventually went on to represent the country in six World Cups. The legendary cricketer added that he is excited about the upcoming World Cup, as marquee tournaments as such often seed dreams in young minds.

“From being a ball boy in 1987 to representing the country in six editions, World Cups have always held a special place in my heart. Winning the World Cup in 2011 is the proudest moment of my cricketing journey. With so many special teams and players set to compete hard in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 here in India, I am excitedly looking forward to this fantastic tournament.”
“Marquee events like the World Cup seed dreams in young minds, I hope this edition too inspires young girls and boys to pick up sports and represent their countries at the highest level,” Sachin was quoted as saying by ICC.
Other than Sachin, ICC will also have Vivian Richards, AB de Villiers, Eoin Morgan, Aaron Finch, Muttiah Muralitharan, Ross Taylor, Suresh Raina, Mithali Raj and Mohammad Hafeez as other ambassadors during the tournament. They will be interacting with the crowd during the tournament. The ambassadors will also aim to elevate the spectator experience via multiple meet-and-greet sessions. They will also be sharing expert analysis in the media zone.
