SA20: Sunrisers Eastern Cape trump Durban Super Giants to lift second consecutive title
Sunrisers Eastern Cape clinched their second consecutive title of the SA20 as they beat Durban Super Giants by 89 runs in the final of SA20 2024 on Saturday, February 10 at Newlands, Cape Town. After opting to bat first, Sunrisers posted a massive score of 204/3 in their allotted 20 overs with half-centuries from Tom Abell (55 off 34) and Tristan Stubbs (56* off 30). Apart from them, Jordan Hermann (42 off 26) and captain Aiden Markram (42* off 26) also made valuable contributions.
In reply, Durban succumbed under the huge scoreboard pressure and got bundled out for just 115 in 17 overs. Only Wiaan Mulder (38 off 22) and Dwaine Pretorius (28 off 17) played quick cameos, however, they weren’t enough to take their team over the line. Marco Jansen was the pick of the bowlers for Sunrisers as he registered figures of 5/30 in four overs while Ottniel Baartman (2/17) and Daniel Worrall (2/15) also picked up two wickets each.
Sunrisers’ biggest threat Heinrich Klaasen was dismissed for a golden duck by Ottniel Baartmen who trapped him in front of the stumps. As a result, the Aiden Markram-led side registered a comfortable 89-run victory and clinched their second successive SA20 title.
