SA20 2024: Faf du Plessis grabs a one-handed stunner to dismiss Dewald Brevis
Playing for Joburg Super Kings in the ongoing SA20, Faf du Plessis picked up a remarkable one-handed catch to send Dewald Brevis packing. Notably, the youngster failed to time Lizaad Williams’ delivery as the 39-year-old ran back from the 30-yard circle and jumped with an outstretched right hand to grab a stunning catch.
The commentators were delighted with Faf’s efforts as they lauded the former South Africa skipper for picking up ‘an absolute screamer of a catch’. His teammates soon joined him for celebration and Brevis departed for just five runs.
His short stay however didn’t impact much as the MI Cape Town picked up a massive win over Joburg in the fourth match of the ongoing SA20. Openers Rassie van der Dussen and Ryan Rickelton gave a perfect start to the team as their 200-run partnership took Joburg out of the contest. Dussen hit 104 runs off just 50 deliveries while stumper-batter Rickelton missed his century by a whisker as he got out on 98 runs off 49 deliveries.
MI Cape Town scripted history by scoring a mammoth 243
Meanwhile, Joburg’s bowlers looked very average as five of the six bowlers conceded more than 10 runs per over. Courtesy of the same, Cape Town posted 243 runs on the board in the SA20 2024 encounter, which became extremely difficult for the Faf du Plessis-led side to chase. They were 29-3 at one stage but Leus du Plooy showed some intent to bring them back into the contest. However, the 29-year-old got out (48 runs off 24 deliveries) as Joburg once again suffered a huge blow.
Romario Shepherd played well towards the fag end as he made 34 runs off 19 runs but that wasn’t enough. Joburg was bundled out for 145 runs as Cape Town won the match by 98 runs. George Linde and Olly Stone picked up two wickets each, while Beuran Hendricks, Kagiso Rabada, Liam Livingstone and Sam Curran picked up one each.
With the win, Cape Town moved to the top of the table with four points from two matches while Joburg are placed fifth with two points from two games.
