Rohit Sharma skips training session ahead of the New Zealand game

Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma has raised concerns ahead of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy match against New Zealand by skipping a recent net practice session. Reports suggest that Sharma is managing a potential hamstring injury, which he appeared to sustain during India’s previous match against Pakistan. During that game, he briefly left the field but returned to bat, scoring a quick 20 off 15 balls.
In the lead-up to the New Zealand clash, Sharma refrained from participating in intense training activities. He did not engage in batting practice or face any throwdowns, opting instead for light jogging under the supervision of strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai. This cautious approach indicates the team’s intent to prevent any aggravation of his hamstring issue.
Adding to the team’s concerns, vice-captain Shubman Gill was absent from the same practice session due to illness. Gill, who has been instrumental at the top of the order, chose to remain indoors to recover. His availability for the upcoming match remains uncertain, potentially impacting India’s batting lineup.
On a positive note, wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has recovered from a recent bout of illness and resumed batting in the nets. Additionally, fast bowler Mohammed Shami, who had shown signs of discomfort during the Pakistan match, bowled at full intensity during practice, alleviating concerns about his fitness.
With India having already secured a spot in the semi-finals, the team management may consider resting key players like Sharma and Gill in the final group-stage match against New Zealand. This strategy would aim to ensure that the squad remains fit and ready for the crucial knockout stages of the tournament.
