Rohit Sharma optimistic about new Mumbai Indians’ squad members
As the IPL fever grips cricket enthusiasts, all eyes are set on the Mumbai Indians, the five-time champions, who have entered the new season with a fresh blend of talent.
The Mumbai Indians have bolstered their squad with promising players from around the globe, including the likes of South Africa’s Gerald Coetzee, England’s Luke Wood, Sri Lanka’s Nuwan Thushara, West Indies’ Romario Shepherd, Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi, and uncapped U-19 World Cup star Kwena Maphaka. Additionally, Indian talent Shreyas Gopal adds depth to the squad.
Former skipper Rohit Sharma expressed optimism about the infusion of new faces into the squad, hoping they would make an immediate impact under the leadership of newly appointed captain Hardik Pandya.
“A lot of players that we got from the auction, a lot of new faces, young players who have done well in domestic cricket as well as international cricket… quite looking forward to that, hopefully they can make a mark right from the beginning,” Rohit said in a video posted by Mumbai Indians.
Maphaka, the U-19 sensation, recently joined the Mumbai Indians camp, stepping in for Sri Lankan pacer Dilshan Madushanka, while Wood filled in the shoes of injured Australian bowler Jason Behrendorff.
For me, preparations have always been the key: Rohit
Reflecting on his preparation for the season, Rohit Sharma expressed his anticipation, stating, “There are a lot of things that I do before a game and I think I have done everything now… just a few things here and there which is left and which I will do now and I will be ready for the game.”
Having recently concluded a Test series against England on a high note with a 4-1 victory, Rohit Sharma emphasized the significance of thorough preparations. Despite joining the camp on Monday, Rohit has diligently followed a customized training regimen, encompassing simulated net sessions and various strength and conditioning drills.
“For me, preparations have always been the key and that gives me a lot of confidence going into any game,” Rohit remarked, highlighting his meticulous approach towards readiness.
