Rohit Sharma becomes fourth player to achieve 100 catches
Mumbai Indians’ (MI) veteran Rohit Sharma added a new feather to his cap, becoming the fourth player to reach 100 catches in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 36-year-old achieved the feat during MI’s IPL 2024 clash against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on April 7, Sunday. He achieved the milestone in his 247th match by taking Jhye Richardson’s catch off Gerald Coetzee.
Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Virat Kohli leads the list of most catches in IPL with an impressive total of 110 catches in 242 matches. Former Chennai Super Kings star Suresh Raina, popularly known as Mr. IPL, is in the second position with 109 catches in 205 matches, followed by Kieron Pollard, who has 103 catches in 189 games.
Jasprit Bumrah completes 150 wickets for MI in IPL
Mumbai Indians’ premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah also scripted a new record, reaching the milestone of 150 wickets in IPL. He became the first Indian cricketer to achieve this feat for a single IPL franchise. The Ahmedabad-born fast bowler, who has been playing for MI since 2013, achieved the feat in 124 games.
In a high-scoring contest between MI and DC at the Wankhede Stadium, the 30-year-old showcased his bowling prowess, finishing with excellent figures of 2/22 in four overs, at an economy rate of just 5.50. He sent back Prithvi Shaw followed by Abhishek Porel to reach the 150-wicket mark.
Speaking about the match, MI posted a mammoth 234 runs on the board, courtesy of Rohit Sharma (49), Ishan Kishan (42), Tim David (35) and Romario Shepherd’s (39) brilliant knocks. In response, Delhi, led by Rishabh Pant, stumbled from the beginning of their innings. DC’s No. 4 batter Tristan Stubbs showed a fight with an unbeaten 71 off a mere 25 deliveries but failed to cross the line as they were restricted to 205.
