RCB announces Rajat Patidar as their new captain

In a significant leadership transition, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have appointed Rajat Patidar as their new captain for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. The announcement was made during a press conference on February 13, 2025. Patidar was presented with the team’s ceremonial blazer and cap by head coach Andy Flower and director of cricket Mo Bobat.

Rajat Patidar, a right-handed top-order batsman from Indore, has consistently performed for RCB since joining the franchise. His leadership credentials were further established when he captained Madhya Pradesh to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final last year. This experience, coupled with his on-field performances, made him a compelling choice for the captaincy role.

The decision to appoint Patidar comes after RCB’s previous captain, Faf du Plessis, was not retained following the 2024 season. While there was speculation about Virat Kohli returning to the leadership position, reports suggest that Kohli declined the opportunity, leading the franchise to entrust Patidar with the responsibility.

Expressing his gratitude, Patidar stated, “Leading RCB is a tremendous honor. I am committed to bringing out the best in our talented squad and striving for the championship.” The franchise and its supporters are optimistic that Patidar’s leadership will usher in a successful era for RCB in the IPL 2025 season.
