Pakistan announces 15-member squad for Women’s T20 World Cup 2024

PAkistan Women's cricket team

Nida Dar has been replaced by the Pakistan pacer, Fatima Sana as skipper for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. The marquee event was shifted to United Arab Emirates (UAE) from Bangladesh, owing to the political unrest in the country.

Notably, Fatima will be leading the team for the first time in any ICC T20I tournament. The 22-year-old has previously led the team in two ODIs, while also replacing Dar in one game where she was concussed out. The Women-in-Green have stuck to the same team that toured Sri Lanka for the Women’s T20 Asia Cup last month.

One particular change has come in the form of Sadaf Shamas, as the batter replaced wicketkeeper-batter Najiha Alvi. It is worth noting that, Shamas was part of the Women’s T20 World Cup in 2023. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the 15-member squad for the global event.

Pakistan consists of almost the same squad from the last edition of T20 World Cup

One of the most interesting highlights of the announced squad has been that 10 players from the previous edition of the tournament have cut the upcoming mega cricket carnival. Players like Aliya Riaz, Muneeba Ali, Nashra Sandhu, Omaima Sohail, Sadia Iqbal, Sidra Amin, Tuba Hassan, Shamas, Dar and Fatima will feature in consecutive editions. Uncapped left-arm seamer Tasmia Rubab has also featured in the starting 15.
