New Zealand women announce 15-member squad for T20 World Cup 2024
As the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 is about three weeks away, New Zealand have announced their 15-member squad for the marquee tournament. Sophie Devine, the ravishing all-rounder, has been named as the skipper for the 2024 edition of the biannual tournament. Another star cricketer, Suzie Bates, has also been included in the squad traveling to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
With the power-packed duo in the squad, they become the only two players to have featured in all the seasons since the inception of the Women’s T20 World Cup.
Rosemary Mair, the express pacer, has made a comeback into the team ahead, and her inclusion will only add to the prowess of the White Ferns. She will be ably supported by Lea Tahuhu, Jess Kerr, Hannah Rowe, and Molly Penfold as the other pacers, whereas, the spin department will be spearheaded by Leigh Kasperek, Melie Kerr, Fran Jonas, and Eden Carson.
I’m really pleased with this squad: Head coach Ben Sawyer
“I’m really pleased with this squad; I think these are our best 15 players to adapt to what will likely be varied conditions,” New Zealand head coach Ben Sawyer was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
“Soph [Devine] and Suze [Bates] have a huge amount of tournament experience from World Cups to franchise leagues, so we’ll certainly be leaning on that knowledge in what’s going to be a pretty intense competition. Rosemary’s had an unfortunate run with injury over the past few months, and she’s worked hard to be fit for this tournament. She’s proved herself as one of our key pace options and we’re excited she’s returning.” Ben Sawyer added
