Mushfiqur Rahim ruled out of Sri Lanka Tests due to thumb injury
Mushfiqur Rahim creates headlines for his off-field shenanigans more than his on-field exploits. He was dominating the Newsers previously as he imitated the infamous Angelo Mathews’ time-out dismissal after Bangladesh emerged victorious against Sri Lanka. In the latest development, the veteran Bangladesh batter has been sidelined ahead of the Test series against Sri Lanka.
He will be missing the Sri Lanka Tests due to a fractured right thumb. It is worth noting that, Mustafizur Rahman had to be rushed out of the field during the third ODI against Sri Lanka as Chattogram heat demanded better of his fitness. A BCB official gave an update on Mushfiqur’s unavailability on Tuesday.
“He (Mushfiqur) is ruled out from the series due to the fracture,” a BCB official confirmed as quoted by Cricbuzz.
Both teams reached Sylhet on Tuesday ahead of the first Test. While the visitors have won the T20I series by 2-1, the hosts have clinched the ODI series by 2-1 margin. The Test series is an all-important one as the results will directly impact their standings in the ICC World Test Championship contest.
Excessive heat hampers the proceedings of the third ODI
Mushfiqur sustained an injury during the third ODI against Sri Lanka. He subsequently went for an MRI scan thereafter. Notably, Bangladesh’s pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib was ruled out of the squad ahead of the third ODI, as he sustained a hamstring injury. He had picked up the injury during the training session at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.
The third ODI between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka was full of hiccups. The match saw three Bangladesh fielders getting injured. The situation worsened when umpire Richard Kettleborough did not take the field due to excessive heat during the match. He had to be replaced by the reserved umpire Tanvir Ahmed who oversaw the match proceedings with umpire Sharfuddoula.
