MS Dhoni opens up on post-retirement plans
Another exciting season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is on the horizon. The IPL 2024 Auction took place on Tuesday, December 19, in Dubai, as teams roped in players in the hope of doing well in the upcoming season.
MS Dhoni could be seen playing his last season in the mega league. Last year, he led the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to a record-equaling fifth IPL crown. This year, he would love to win the title once again and go out on a high. In a recent event, the legendary cricketer was asked about his plans after retirement. Dhoni said that he would love to spend more time with the Indian Army.
“I have never thought about it. I am still playing cricket. IPL I am still playing. It will be very interesting to see what I end up doing after cricket. I think for sure, I want to spend a bit more time with the Army because last few years I have not been able to do that,” MS Dhoni was heard as saying in a video that has gone viral.
Last season, when CSK defeated the Gujarat Titans in the summit clash in Ahmedabad, fans thought that Dhoni would draw curtains on his cricketing career. However, the stalwart said at the post-match presentation ceremony that he would try to play one more season as a return gift for his fans.
We’ve had succession plans for MS for about 10 years: Stephen Fleming
The Super Kings have had Stephen Fleming as head coach since the second season of the IPL in 2009. The former New Zealand captain revealed during a press conference at the IPL 2024 auction that Chennai have been talking to Dhoni about his potential successor for the past 10 years.
“We’ve had succession plans for MS for about 10 years. It is going to be a talking point., but he is as engaged and as enthusiastic as I have seen him for a while. While that passion is there for the team and franchise, we’ll roll on,” Fleming recently said.
