Most POTM Awards in T20Is for India
India will always be remembered as the champions of the inaugural T20 World Cup. Over the years, they have produced some outstanding players who have taken the shortest format of the game to new heights. It has to be said that the Indian Premier League has helped India become one of the most consistent sides in the T20 format. However, they would have liked to have added a few more titles to their trophy cabinet. In this article, we will take a look at three Indian players who have won the most Player of the Match awards for India in T20Is.
3) 12 – Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma was a part of the Indian team that won the T20 World Cup in 2007. He started in the middle-order but slowly transformed into a demolishing opener. In 148 T20Is, Rohit has scored 3853 runs at an average of 30.82 and a strike rate of 139.25 in T20Is. The Mumbai batter has notched up 29 fifties and four centuries in the international 20-over format and won 12 Player of the Match awards.
2) 13 – Suryakumar Yadav
Suryakumar Yadav was cut out to play the T20 format. After performing exceedingly well for many years in the IPL, Suryakumar was picked in the Indian side for T20Is. He started his career with an audacious six off Jofra Archer that will be remembered for a long time. The 33-year-old has played 55 T20Is for India and scored 1940 runs at an average of 46.19 and a strike rate of 173.52. He has registered 16 fifties and three hundreds and has been adjudged Player of the Match on 13 occasions already in his short career.
1) 15 – Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli’s numbers in T20Is are quite remarkable. He has amassed 4008 runs in 115 T20Is at an average of 52.74 and a strike rate of 137.97 Such consistent numbers aren’t generally associated with the format where unpredictability is the name of the game. Kohli has a whopping 37 fifties in the format and his only century came against Afghanistan in an Asia Cup clash. The former India captain has won 15 Player of the Match awards in T20Is, more than any other Indian player.
