India and Australia have had a fierce rivalry in world cricket and it has only gained steam over the years. The gap between the two teams have also narrowed down in recent years with India giving the ‘Men in Yellow’ a run for their money on quite a few occasions.

The two teams are currently engaged in a three-match ODI series in India, preceding the 50-over World Cup. The first ODI is set to take place on Friday, September 22 in Mohali. Here are the players with the most number of centuries scored by players in India versus Australia ODIs:

The iconic former Australian captain is considered one of the greatest batters of all time. Nobody can forget his whirlwind century (140* off 121 balls) versus India in the finals of the 2003 ODI World Cup in Johannesburg. Ponting has six centuries against India in 50-over cricket in 59 innings and also scored nine half-centuries at an average of 40.07.

India’s modern-day greats, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been exceptional against Australia, producing some memorable knocks under pressure. Both the cricketers have eight centuries in ODI cricket versus the Aussies and average well in excess of 50. While Kohli has played 44 ODI innings against Australia, averaging a commendable 52.97, Rohit has batted in India-Australia ODIs on 42 occasions and has an incredible average of 59.23.

The legendary batter gave the mighty Aussie bowlers sleepless nights during his career as he took the fight to them against all odds. He leads the list of most centuries in India versus Australia ODI encounters with nine tons to his name in 70 innings. He also had 15 half-centuries against them. The ‘Master Blaster’ has an average of 44.59 versus the Aussies.
