Morne Morkel set to become India’s bowling coach
Following the current Sri Lankan series, the Indian squad will have a full-time bowling coach. According to rumours, Gautam Gambhir’s demand has been fulfilled by the BCCI, and the Bangladesh Test series may decide on the final coach.
Sairaj Bahutule was the bowling coach for India during their tour to Sri Lanka. T Dilip went as the fielding coach, and Ryan ten Doeschate and Abhishek Nayar served as Gambhir’s assistant coaches.
With the end of the Sri Lanka series, Bahutule’s duties will end, even if Dilip will probably stay in his position. Morne Morkel, a former South African pacer, is expected to be named the bowling coach permanently. The leading candidate for the position is Morkel, who worked with the India head coach at LSG after playing for KKR under Gautam Gambhir. Gambhir suggested Morkel’s name, and the Indian coach has gained his desire.
Not just for the India vs. Sri Lanka matches, but also for the strategic changes to the Indian cricket team’s coaching structure, excitement is growing. After the appointment of Morne Morkel as India’s bowling coach, it would be interesting to see the changes in the team’s plan.
According to a Cricbuzz report, Morkel will take charge of the bowling for the Indian cricket team starting with the next Test series against Bangladesh. His official appointment is anticipated to take place before the team’s home series in September. It is unclear if Sairaj Bahutule would be promoted to head coach. He is now serving as an acting bowling coach in Sri Lanka.
The Indian team management and selectors will assess the present coaching team during the current six-match white-ball series in Sri Lanka. Based on their findings, they will formally construct a new lineup for the upcoming matches. The mystery is heightened by the ambiguity surrounding Bahutule’s involvement.
However, since Morkel is not renowned for his skill in spin bowling, India might still need a dedicated spin bowling coach. He will take over as the bowling coach in the upcoming weeks if the allegations are accurate.
There used to be just three specialized assistants under Rahul Dravid and Ravi Shastri: a bowling coach, a fielding coach, and a batting coach. Now that Gambhir is on board, things could get tricky if he decides to bring in experts from every sector.
India has won the first two games of the current three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. On July 30, Kandy will host the third and final Twenty20 International before the three-match ODI series between India and Sri Lanka takes place in Colombo.
