Mohammed Shami targets comeback during England Tests
Mohammed Shami has branded India’s upcoming five-game Test assignment against England as the series where he will look to make his comeback. Having sustained an ankle injury, Shami missed out on India’s two-match Test series against South Africa.
Shami’s inclusion in the series against South Africa was worth noting, as it was subject to fitness. He had to miss the series after failing to recover in time. He has not been named in India’s squad for the upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan at home.
The series against England is slated to begin on January 25. Shami has confirmed that his rehab is right on track. He added that despite slight stiffness in his ankle, he will be back to take on England.
“My rehabilitation is well on track, and the medical experts at NCA are happy with my progress, there is slight stiffness in my ankle but that’s fine. I have started my training sessions and I believe I will be able to make a comeback in the England series,” Shami was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
‘We did well in the second Test’ – Mohammed Shami on India’s Cape Town victory
Shami also talked of India’s performance in the two-test series against South Africa. Losing the first game by an innings and 32 runs in Centurion, the Rohit Sharma-led made a sensational comeback in the second Test in Cape Town to level the series. Shami opined that the side did well in the second game and lauded the performance of the bowling attack.
“We did well in the second test; everyone contributed and our bowling effort was brilliant. It was a brilliant comeback by India to level the series. Unfortunately I missed it because of injury but I want to get back to competitive cricket as soon as possible. Hopefully you can see me back in action against England,” Shami said.
