Mohammed Shami named in Bengal’s probable list for the 2024-25 domestic cricket season

Fiery India pacer Mohammed Shami, who is on the road to recovery after a successful ankle surgery, has been included in West Bengal’s 31 probable ahead of the domestic cricket season. Notably, Shami had been sidelined from all the cricket action to the extent that he was eventually ruled out of the ODI World Cup which took place in November, last year.

Currently, the pacer has been undergoing rehabilitation at the renowned National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru and has begun to bowl in full swing in the nets. The 33-year-old has aimed to make a comeback during the home international fixtures which are set to commence on September 19 against Bangladesh.

As per ESPN Cricinfo, Shami was expected to play an away game for Bengal against UP (Uttar Pradesh), which is slated to start on October 11. Besides, the gun quick also hoped to play at home against Bihar beginning on October 18, respectively.

Previously, the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar had started to bowl and was hoping to get him back to international action against Bangladesh. Though, it is still not clear whether Shami will be able to play all the domestic or upcoming international games at home which also includes New Zealand’s tour of India. The key reason for uncertainty has been that the Indian board has been giving utmost importance to the upcoming Australia tour, which will kick off on November 5.

Shami’s younger brother Mohammed Kaif named in Bengal’s probable list

Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami’s young brother, Mohammed Kaif has also made it to the list of the probable players which also features Wriddhiman Saha. Notably, the Indian wicketkeeper-batter recently buried the hatched with CAB (Cricket Association of Bengal) to move his base back to Bengal from Tripura.

Surprisingly, last year, Team Bengal failed to qualify ahead from the Ranji Trophy group stage as they finished in the third spot in Group B, behind Mumbai and Andhra Pradesh. Moreover, they crashed out of the quarterfinals of the coveted Vijay Hazare tournament. Further adding to their woes, Bengal were knocked out of the pre-quarterfinals of the Syed Mushtaq T20 competition as well.
