MI vs RCB Review: Mumbai flatten Bengaluru in Wankhede
The Mumbai Indians faced off against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Match 25 of the Indian Premier League 2024 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. MI won the toss and Hardik Pandya elected to field first. RCB icon Virat Kohli, after a string of commendable performances, couldn’t make it count this time around, falling for 3 of 9. However, skipper Faf du Plessis and Rajat Patidar finally came to the party. While Faf played an anchor role with 61 off 40, Patidar was the aggressor with an assertive 50 (26). Late fireworks from veteran Dinesh Karthik, who played a blinder of a 23-ball 53, motored the visitors to 196/8.
Coming to the chase, the home team came all guns blazing against a hapless RCB attack. Ishan Kishan did the bulk of the scoring in the opening partnership for MI, scoring a quickfire 69 off 34. While Rohit Sharma was a mere spectator at the other end for most of the stand. Suryakumar Yadav, who got dismissed for a silver duck in MI’s previous clash, smashed a quickfire 52 off 19. Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma finished off the chase in a hurry, with the former striking three maximums and the latter stroking four to grant MI a seven-wicket win with 27 deliveries to spare.
Top Performers of the Match
Suryakumar Yadav (52 off 19)
The local boy, on his return from a sports hernia surgery, carried forward the much-needed impetus provided by opener Ishan Kishan, smashing an eventful 52 off 19, laced with five fours and four sixes. Suryakumar Yadav made sure he took the team across the finish line in a rapid manner as they achieved their second victory of the season.
Jasprit Bumrah (5/21)
Jasprit Bumrah bowled one of the best spells at the Wankhede against a power-packed RCB batting order and delivered right from scalping the danger man Virat Kohli in his first over. In a sensational spell that included 13 dot balls, he derailed the RCB batting lineup from their intended path.
What’s next for both teams?
Both the Mumbai Indians and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru will be playing at their respective homes. Mi will take on arch-rivals CSK on April 14 and the latter play Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 15.
