Mayank Yadav to undergo workload management over next week
The 21-year-old Delhi-born speedster, Mayank Yadav, along with winning the Player of the Match awards in his first two IPL matches, drew significant attention of pundits and viewers alike, who’ve been going gaga over his raw pace and daunting line & length, which have kept opposition batters on their toes during when they’d come up head-to-head with him steaming in. His match-winning spells of 3/27 and 3/14 against the Punjab Kings and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, respectively, were a treat to watch as the budding sensation kept testing the speed gun, constantly being up and around the 150-155 kph mark, with his fastest being a lightning-fast thunderbolt of 156.7 kph against the Bengaluru-based franchise.
However, in his third match against the Gujarat Titans, which resulted in the Lucknow Super Giants eventually emerging victorious by 33 runs, Mayank didn’t look anywhere close to his scorching best, with only two of his six deliveries being bowled at a little above the 140 kph-mark, along with him getting stroked for 13 runs in the solitary over he bowled.
He never showed up to the bowling crease post that, with him being taken off for a then-suspected side strain, which was later confirmed by the CEO of LSG, Vinod Bisht, as an ache in the lower abdominal area. Bisht confirmed that Mayank was suffering from the aforementioned adversity, and that he and the team management hope to see him ready to step foot on the field in the coming week, but not before his workload has been administered during the days to come.
“Mayank felt soreness in lower abdominal area and as a precaution, we are managing his workload over next week. We hope to see him soon on the field,” said Bisht a day after LSG’s third win on the trot.
