Lowest totals in World Cup history

The ODI World Cup 2023 has seen many iconic moments in the tournament over the years. Both good and bad, the ODI World Cup has been through all possible highs and lows. Over the years, there have many instances where the various sides have posted huge totals on the board. On the other hand, there have been many instances of the sides getting bundled out for a very low total. Continuing on the same, let us have a look at the top three lowest totals in World Cup history.

3) IND vs SL (55)

The third-lowest total in ODI World Cup history was made by Sri Lanka when the side took on India in the 33rd game of the tournament in 2023. After the Indian team posted a total of 357 runs on the board in the first innings, Sri Lanka’s batters fell prey to the brilliant bowling attack of the Men in Blue. Mohammed Shami took five wickets, with Mohammed Siraj taking three wickets, and Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja striking once each. Sri Lanka were bundled out for just 55 runs as they lost the game by 302 runs.

2) ENG vs CAN, AUS vs NAM (45)

Tied in second place are two games. A clash between England and Canada, the 8th game of the 1979 World Cup, and the clash between Australia and Namibia, the 31st game of the 2003 World Cup. England bundled out Canada on a total of 45 runs in the first innings and won the game by eight wickets. On the other hand, Australia, after posting a total of 301 runs on the board, bundled out Namibia for 45 runs as well.

1) CAN vs SL (36)

The lowest-ever total recorded in ODI World Cup history was made by Canada when the side took on Sri Lanka in the 18th game of the 2003 World Cup. Batting first, Canada only managed to post 36 runs on the board in the first innings, which is the lowest-ever total recorded in World Cup history. Eventually, Sri Lanka went on to win the game by nine wickets.
