Jasprit Bumrah reclaimed his top position in the ICC Test Rankings
With team India winning the two-game Test series against Bangladesh, there have been significant shifts in the Test bowler rankings. For his excellent performances, star India pacer Jasprit Bumrah has reclaimed his position as the world number 1 Test bowler, replacing Ravichandran Ashwin.
Bumrah currently has 870 points to his name, whereas Ashwin sits in second place with 869 points. It is the second time that Bumrah has become the world number 1 bowler in Test cricket, thanks to his eleven wickets in the Bangladesh series.
It is worth noting that Ashwin was also in top form in the series, taking five wickets in the Kanpur Test. On the other hand, Bangladesh’s Mehidy Hasan Miraz jumped up four spots to 18th, with Shakib Al Hasan now sitting in 28th place, moving up by five places.
Furthermore, Sri Lanka’s Prabath Jayasuriya now sits in seventh place after his heroics against New Zealand recently. As for India, with the Rohit Sharma-led side set to take on New Zealand in Tests next, the side will hope to put in a good performance and stay atop the WTC standings.
Batter rankings see some shifts as well
The brilliant performances that the Indian team put in against Bangladesh have seen some batters make some shifts in the Test rankings as well. Jumping up two places, Jaiswal has now reached his career-best and sits in third place in the Test batter rankings, behind Kane Williamson and Joe Root.
Furthermore, ace India batter Virat Kohli made it back into the top 10 after he became the fastest cricketer to score 27,000 international runs, surpassing the previously held record of Sachin Tendulkar.
Kohli now sits in sixth place in the standings after he jumped up six places. Sri Lanka’s Kamindu Mendis also moved places, and now sits in 11th place, reaching a new career high. Dinesh Chandimal moved up six places to 20th, and Angelo Mathews sits in 23rd place, moving up four places.
