IPL 2025 Auction – Top 5 steal deals

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction concluded on Monday, November 25, as teams finalised their squads heading into the 18th edition of the tournament. In this article, we take a look at the top five steal deals after the mega event.

5. Glenn Maxwell

The star Australian all-rounder returned to Punjab Kings for INR 4.20 crore. Glenn Maxwell had a forgettable outing in IPL 2024 for Royal Challengers Bengaluru as he scored just 52 runs from 10 games at a paltry average of 5.78. This abysmal outing stopped other franchises from breaking the bank for the veteran. If Maxwell is in form, he can be a nightmare for opposition bowlers. Punjab will hope that he comes into the tournament with the same form he had 10 years ago when he helped the team to finish runners-up for the first time.

4. Will Jacks

The England all-rounder bagged an INR 5.25 crore deal as he signed for five-time champions Mumbai Indians. Jacks is currently opening the batting for the Three Lions in the shortest format of the game and had performed commendably last season for the Royal Challengers, helping them reach the playoffs after a horrible start to the campaign. The right-handed batter can pulverise some of the fiercest bowling attacks on his day. Many pundits couldn’t believe that he didn’t get a better contract.

3. Faf du Plessis

The former South African skipper moved to Delhi Capitals after leading Royal Challengers Bengaluru for the last three seasons. Faf du Plessis was roped in by the Capitals for his base price of INR 2 crore. Du Plessis has the experience of playing 145 IPL games and has scored 4.571 runs at an average of 35.99 and a strike rate of 136.37. The 40-year-old is still very fit and can save a lot of runs in the outfield.

2. Washington Sundar

The Indian all-rounder surprisingly bagged only an INR 3.20 crore deal after having a base price of INR 2 crore at the auction. He has made some crucial contributions for India in the T20 format this year and also showed improvements in his bowling in the Test arena. Sundar went to Gujarat Titans and he will look to play the role of a spin-bowling all-rounder for the 2022 champions alongside Rashid Khan.

1. Quinton de Kock

Quinton de Kock signed for defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 3.60 crore. The South African wicketkeeper-batter has put in some stellar performances during his IPL career. He amassed 500-plus runs in 2019, 2020, and 2022. In IPL 2023, he played just four games and scored 143 runs. However, IPL 2024 turned out to be a forgettable affair for the wicketkeeper-batter as he averaged only 22.73. However, in the batting-friendly surfaced at the Eden Gardens, de Kock can make quite an impact for the three-time champions.
