IPL 2024: Gujarat Titans Retained & Released players
In what was building for days came true as Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya finally joined Mumbai Indians in an all-cash trade deal. Being part of the two new franchises that were introduced in 2022, Gujarat negotiated and appointed Hardik as the captain and in his very first year, the all-rounder managed to help the franchise win the title. In the following year in 2023, they almost retained the title but Ravindra Jadeja’s boundary in the final delivery of the IPL final ruined that opportunity.
Ahead of the player retention announcement, a few reports claimed that Hardik and GT management grew differences and that’s the reason he wanted to leave the franchise. Five-time champions Mumbai Indians cashed in at the right time, to bring him back to the set-up.
Rashid Khan, Shubman Gill and Kane Williamson currently seem to be options to lead Gujarat in IPL 2024. Both Williamson and Rashid have plenty of experience in the shortest format, having led various franchises before. Shubman, meanwhile, does nort have any experience of captaining but is one of the contenders to be a part of the leadership group, if not the captain.
Meanwhile, Gujarat have retained their core squad ahead of IPL 2024. They however need a strong replacement of Hardik in the middle order. Come the auction on November 19 in Dubai, the franchise has a lot of business to take care of.
